*Eurydice by H.D. http://www.vcu.edu/engweb/webtexts/eurydice/index.html
What is the key talent of Orpheus? As he argues for Eurydice’s life, Orpheus brings up the Hades and Persephone myth. How does this myth differ from the Orpheus and Eurydice myth? How is it similar? Who’s really to blame for this whole scenario? Why do you think Eurydice died of a snake bite instead of something else? Why do you think Orpheus turned to look at Eurydice? Why was his backward glance merited / not-merited? How does Orpheus’ attempt represent a deeply primal human wish? What are two things that happen to Orpheus after he loses his wife for a second time and spends time lamenting his loss? What is significant about those events? Why was Orpheus unsuccessful in this quest? Is Orpheus a hero? How would Eurydice describe what has happened? How fitting is the death of Orpheus?? When/if Orpheus and Eurydice finally reunite in the Underworld do you think they’re happy together? Or do you think their relationship has changed? How?
