How can organizational behavior help understand and solve real-world problems?
Objective: The objective of this coursework is to give students an opportunity to apply theories and concepts from the module content to a real-world problem.
Requirements: This coursework asks you to select a case relating to organizational behavior. Students can choose among the following topics:
1. Stress, burnout, emotions
2. Employee misbehavior
3. Perception
4. Motivation
5. Personality
6. Leadership
7. New forms of organization
As a starting point, students are asked to find a business case about the selected topic, and conduct research on the case. After conducting further reading and research, students should complete the following analysis:
1. Select a small number of concepts/theories related to the OB topic you selected that you believe are particularly relevant to the case. Introduce relevant theories/concepts with reference to published literature (including textbooks and journal articles), but you should focus on one theory and connect it to the case. Explain clearly and concisely how and why the theory helps to explain the case. It is also possible that you may find the theory has problems, or its application has unintended consequences that caused the problem. In such cases you should clearly explain why the theory, or its application, caused the problem, and offer your suggestion. (approximately 1000 words including introduction).
2. Based on your analysis, suggest changes to management or organisational practice that are relevant to the case you selected and that would contribute to improve practice or avoid problems (approximately 500 words including conclusion).
